Microsoft Abandons Skype to Focus on Microsoft Teams

1 min read

Microsoft’s shutting down Skype servers! Crazy, right? March 2023, they say. Focusin’ on Teams now. Heard it through the grapevine, kinda shocked me. Lots of users are upset, I can tell ya that.

They say it’s a user decline. Teams is more popular. Makes sense, I guess. But still, Skype’s been around forever! It’s the end of an era, man. Seriously.

Good news though, your account’s safe. For now, anyway. Desktop and web apps keep working. Mobile app too, integrates with Teams. Phew! That’s a relief.

Skype groups and chats? They’ll still be there. But no more updates after April. Support ends then. Communities? No more emails, but they’re not deleted. Phew again!

Some folks are worried, understandably. I talked to a few. They’re used to Skype. Change is hard, you know? Microsoft says Teams is the future. More features comin’, they promise. We’ll see.

So yeah, Skype’s not totally gone. But it’s definitely changing. Big changes. It’s a bittersweet moment, really. The end of an era, but also a new beginning. I’m curious to see what happens next.
